Thank you to community-spirited agent and art-enthusiast, Joe Fallon, who this month curates a show of photography at the McCormack & Scanlan Real Estate office/gallery. On display through November 2010 will be photographs by Rosie McCobb and Elizabeth Albritton, who each shot a series of images inspired by the neighborhoods they live in and love. The opening reception is Wednesday, November 3rd from 6-9 pm at 68 South Street in Jamaica Plain.
McCobb's series, Unexpected Brooklyn: Neighborhood Landscape in Transition, is the result of her fascination with three neighborhoods in Brooklyn that are at "the midpoint between the old blight and the recent rejuvenation." These documentary photographs were taken on her visual safaris into Bedford-Stuveysant, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Red Hook "collecting compositions of things that are often unnoticed, yet striking in their color, design and beauty." She says, "I feel it is my job as a visual artist to slow down and capture my surroundings." Rosie's work is printed on archival canvas, and mounted on stretchers like a painting. To view more of her work, please go to http://www.rosiemccobb.com/
Elizabeth Albritton seems to share that view, as her series Summer, night considers well-loved spaces in Jamaica Plain "as a locus of new mystery." She uncovers unknown views of familiar landscapes in works that make masterful use of long exposures, available light and light she adds. All the digital photographs in the series are printed on archival metallic paper. To see Elizabeth's work please go to www.elizabethalbritton.com

Something about Shay and Serigraphy
Serigraphy is the reproduction of imagery via a woven mesh which supports ink-blocking stencils. Shay Culligan practices a unique style of serigraphy which utilizes color separation techniques he learnt in offset printing. His subject-matter deals with isolation, neglect, abandonment, and various urban interpretations. He works entirely from his own photographs and most of his work is reproduced onto canvas.
Opening reception will be Aug 5...info at shayvisual.com

While I'm at it....
Some of my favorite clients are pictured here. Well, actually, they were not exactly a part of the negotiations. Maya and Angelie were born about a week after their Mom and Dad moved in to their new place, though! When I first met them they were so tiny and swaddled that they looked like two little burritos. I wanted to take them 'to go'! Now they are 9 months and are two of the most adorable beings ever!

I just helped a great, young couple buy their first house. I have to share this note...it makes my work worthwhile!
"HOO RAY! This week has been so hectic--I am still absorbing the reality. This has been such a crazy process, and I know we are both hoping that it will be decades before we have to consider it again. You have been so wonderful though--we really can't thank you enough. We will certainly refer anyone who's at any stage of the home-buying process to you!!

More Paintings in May.
The May show is set to go. I am very excited to announce that Bina Altera is coming in from Brooklyn, NY, and she'll be joined by Alexander Farrell of Jamaica Plain - each showing their new paintings. I've known Bina for years. In fact, I used to represent her as a collage artist/illustrator and it is a joy to see how her work has evolved over the years. I just met Alex through one of the painter's whose work is up this month. When I saw his work it struck me that the contrast in how they use paint would make for an interesting pairing.

Thank you Greg B for some great party shots!
I have to say looking at these photos it's a bit hard to believe the space is a real estate office most of the time!
Below - me and "my" Joe. ( fashionista and real estate agent Joe Fallon)
Photographer Lori DeSantis - who also makes the best heart cookies ever!
Thanks so much to Missy Curley for tending the Proseco and juice bar. (Just so happens she is Naomi Raiselle's daughter, owner of GENERATIONS cinemastories, a dear friend of mine.
And thanks again to everyone who helped out and showed up - especially "my" Roz! Anyone looking for info - the links to the site's of the photographers in the show are a few blog entries below.

Some of the musicians from Axis Ensemble performing in the front window of the real estate office ( turned art gallery ) where I'm an agent. What a treat.
Oysters...Proseco...
Thanks to all the amazing creative people who made the Love Scenes opening such a success!
It is really gratifying for me to get word this morning that the artists involved in Love Scenes are happy with the show and the opening. I just have to share some of their comments (below). I am waiting to get some photos from the day of the reception...will post soon! The live models courtesy of JPDame with hair and make-up by Styling by Lisette, the perfect-exactly-what-I would-have-imagined flowers by 14stories - and the absolutely wonderful live music by Catherine Bent of Axis Ensemble really made the art opening feel more like a celebration of love. ( Not to mention the oysters from Bon Savor and other goodies.) I know I had a great time anyway!
"Hi, The show was a huge success! What a great turn out we had.
It was so nice to be part of such a wonderful show with all of you! Edana, you did a spectacular job organizing everything, and all of my guests commented on how elegant and lovely it was."
- Lori DeSantis
"Ditto Lori and thank you so much Edana! The opening was a huge success and so much fun to be a part of. It was so great to meet all of you and I am looking forward to spending some more time with you during the de-installation of the work. Lori, you cookies were delicious and worth every calorie :) Thank you again everyone for a wonderful collaboration."
- Sheryl Pace
"Yes! Multitudes of thanks to Edana for being a kick-ass promoter/organizer. I felt the day was a tremendous success, and was so happy to be a part of it."

Flowers!!
'I'm marveling at all the creative businesses tucked away in JP that have come out to participate in Love Scenes. For instance, 14stories is generously providing a variety of floral arrangements that sound like they will be inspirational for brides-to-be. Can't wait to see them. Also, I was perusing their site and learned they've published a book called Gay Wedding Confidential.' Pretty cool.
Vintage Wedding Wear
The art is pretty much up and now I am so looking forward to seeing what Dany of JP Dame and Styling by Lisette have up their sleeve for Saturday. I just heard Dany's bringing in 'a ton of crazy fun white lace, tulle & satin dresses'!

Playing around in the art scene with Love Scenes!
Love Scenes is an exhibition of images by six wedding photographers that celebrate love. On view throughout the month of February 2010 at my real estate office-turned-art-gallery. I'm having an absolute blast looking at the images and collaborating with everyone involved. Just found out that Beantown Bride is going to sponsor the brunch reception on Feb 6. Fun!
